Since 1980, Australians have been travelling to Japan on a working holiday visa, mostly to teach English. Australians also work in Japan on the JET Program (working in schools and local government) along with those on a work visa. However, this guide is written in more of a narrative style and draws those in who are not intending to work in Japan, but have an interest in the country.
The book has several sections including an introduction to cultural customs and what its like to be a gaijin (foreigner) along with the practicalities of arriving and settling in. Not surprisingly the two largest sections are on living and working though the section In search of the real Japan is of great use to all travellers.
